To achieve the CSA W178.2 Level 2 Welding Inspector Certification. It is also the objective of this course to prepare exam candidates to write the ASME B31.3 code endorsement exams as part of this certification.

Who Should Attend

CSA W178.2 Level 1 welding inspectors who want to obtain the Level 2 welding inspector certification, and by reciprocity, the AWS Certified Welding Inspector accreditation.


CWB Recognition for Shortened Exam

Successful completion of this course (submitting all online lessons and attending every classroom day) entitles attendees to write a short version of the Level 2 closed book examination "Basic materials science, advanced welding fundamentals and other welding inspection techniques" with the Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB).

Each participant will receive a CASTI certificate of completion with 48 Professional Development Hours (PDHs) for attending all 6 days of the classroom training. An additional 32 PDHs will be awarded for the completion of the pre-classroom online lessons prior to the course start date.

* Estimates are based on the average time needed by previous students to complete online training. Your personal skill and experience levels will determine the actual time required to complete this work. Previous students took between 10-30 hours (1-4 days) to complete the online lesson work.

The online study work is an integral part of this training course and must all be submitted to receive course completion recognition and full CEU credits. Once practice exams and lessons are completed, students can reset them for further study and practice.

Required Code Documents

All participants must have a copy of CSA Standard W178.2 and a copy of the ASME B31.3 (2016 Edition) code document for the code endorsement to complete this course. The ASME codes can be purchased from CASTI at a special discounted rate. A course notebook will be provided to all participants by CASTI.

About the Instructor

Bruce Cormier graduated from NAIT Materials Engineering Technology program in 1981, and started with Nova Gas Transmission where he worked as a Quality Control Technologist responsible for the quality control system of the Spruce Grove fabrication shop. The fabrication shop produced and installed meter stations, mainline block valve assemblies, scraper trap assemblies and compressor station yard piping. In 2004, Bruce began with GRB Enterprises, where he worked as a welding examiner, along with developing and performing the mechanical tests for ASME and CSA welding procedures. Since 2014, Bruce has been working at CLAC as a welding examiner and instructor.

Bruce is a Registered Engineering Technologist with ASET (07890), an ABSA registered Welding Examiner (E-00252) and is a CSA W178.2 Level 3 Certified Welding Inspector (3094). He is also the Canadian Welding Association National Advisory Council Chair for the 2013-2015 term.
