Completing all of the E-Learning content is a critical step that maximizes your likelihood of passing the exam. Individuals who do not complete all of the E-Learning may jeopardize the likelihood of successfully passing the exam and do so at their own risk.

Objectives

This course is designed to maximize your success in passing the API 653 Tank Inspector Certification Examination by learning how to:

  • understand what the API Body of Knowledge requires exam candidates to know;
  • efficiently reference the API and ASME Codes during the API ICP examination; and
  • complete all calculations required of exam candidates during the API ICP examination.

Note: CASTI provides this course to help candidates prepare for the API exam. However, this course is a separate entity from the API examination. API requires that all exam candidates apply directly with API before September 7, 2018 in order to write the API 653 examination in the testing window of November 9, 2018 to November 23, 2018. CASTI does not have prior knowledge of future API ICP examination questions.

Who Should Attend

This training course is intended for API 653 inspector examination candidates who have both inspection experience and experience working with the API and ASME Codes. Experience with API and ASME Codes is required during the supervision of inspection activities as described in the ICP Qualification Requirements. API ICP exam candidates are expected to have a broad base of general knowledge and experience covering all topics described in the API Body of Knowledge

Accreditation

Each participant will receive a CASTI certificate of completion which includes 56 Professional Development Hours (PDHs) should they complete the E-Learning before November 23, 2018.

* Estimates are based on the average time needed by previous students to complete online training. Your personal skill and experience levels will determine the actual time required to complete this work. The average amount of time taken was 50 hours but, previous students took between 30-90 hours (4-11 days) to complete the E-Learning work.


Prior to the course start date, the online lessons are made available to all customers registered for this CASTI course. The E-Learning training lessons include:

  • e-Instructor support;
  • simple online access using a web browser (see Minimum System Requirements below);
  • high-resolution photographs;
  • lessons and practice exams that students can reset for further study and practice; and
  • automatic online grading of all submitted answers to practice problems and practice exams to allow for self-evaluation.

The E-Learning content is the main portion of the course and completing all of it is a critical step in maximizing your likelihood of passing the exam. Individuals who do not complete all of the E-Learning content jeopardize their likelihood of successfully passing the exam. The E-Learning content is a mandatory part of this training course and must be completed by all registrants by the above specified date to achieve the full CEU credit, and for exam candidates to comply with the CASTI Exam Preparation Guarantee Policy (see Guarantee Policy below).

Topics

API ICP exam candidates are expected to have a broad base of general knowledge and experience covering all topics described in the API Body of Knowledge. Topics listed in the API Body of Knowledge will be discussed as they pertain to the API Effectivity Sheet.

All participants must bring the API and ASME Code documents referenced in the API 653 Effectivity Sheet. For more information, please view the API 653 Effectivity Sheet.

About the Instructor

John E. Bringas, P.Eng. is a professional engineer who has practiced metallurgical engineering and inspection for 40 years. He is also certified as an API 510, 570, 653, 571, 577, and 580 inspector, an AWS Certified Welding Inspector, an Alberta In-Service Pressure Vessel Inspector and Welding Examiner, and former CGSB certified NDE examiner in UT and RT. He is a long time committee member of ASTM A01 (Steels), A05 (Coated Steels), B02 (Nonferrous Alloys), NACE STG 32 (Oil and Gas Production-Metallurgy) and STG 36 (Process Industry-Materials), and Canadian Representative on ISO TC 17-SC 4 (Steels). He is the author of the ASTM Handbook of Comparative World Steel Standards, ASTM Handbook of Steel Data: American and European, ASTM Passport to Steel Database, and the CASTI Metals Data Books.
