The goal of this CASTI Certification Preparation e-learning course is to assist the learner in passing the API 510 ICP exam by mastering the topics described in the Body of Knowledge. Learners will learn all topics described in the API 510 ICP Body of Knowledge, including how to:

  • identify the responsibilities for owner/user organization, engineer, repair organization, inspector, and examiners;
  • perform calculations involving thickness measurements, inspection intervals, and vessel integrity;
  • evaluate welding procedures and qualifications based on ASME Section IX; and
  • determine the code requirements for nondestructive examination.

The ASTM | CASTI API 510 ICP Exam Preparation course consists of 12 modules, including over 1,100 practice questions to prepare for the exam that can be answered as many times as needed.

Module 1: Getting Started
  • Provides information on the API 510 ICP exam and study tips.
Module 2: API 510
  • Covers API 510 Code, excluding Section IX and Appendix E, in accordance with the API 510 ICP Body of Knowledge.
Module 3: API RP 572
  • Covers API RP 576, including Annex B, but not other Annexes in accordance with the API 510 ICP Body of Knowledge.
Module 4: API RP 576
  • Covers entire document, except Annexes in accordance with the API 510 ICP Body of Knowledge.
Module 5: ASME Section VIII, Div. 1
  • Covers Sections U, UG, UW, UCS, Appendices 1-4, 6, 8, and 12 in accordance with the API 510 ICP Body of Knowledge.
Module 6: ASME Section IX
  • Covers welding sections of document in accordance with the API 510 ICP Body of Knowledge.
Module 7: ASME Section V
  • Covers Articles 1, 2, 6, 7, and 23 Section SE-797 in accordance with the API 510 ICP Body of Knowledge.
Module 8: API RP 577
  • Covers entire document, in accordance with the API 510 ICP Body of Knowledge.
Module 9: API RP 571
  • Covers 15 damage mechanisms in accordance with the API 510 ICP Body of Knowledge.
Module 10: Self-Assessment
  • Includes 3 full sets of self-assessment questions in both closed book and open book formats instructionally designed to prepare for the exam.

It takes an estimated 70-90 hours to complete the e-learning course, however, this may vary depending on educational background and work experience. Note: there is a clear correlation between not completing the full e-learning training program and not being successful in the API ICP examination.

ASME Section VIII, Division 1 Rules for Construction of Pressure Vessels

ASME IX WPS/PQR Review
  • The learner is required to complete the ASME Section IX modules to self-study the basic requirements and how to use the code
  • The live two-day session will only cover a review of a sample WPS/PQR to better prepare the learner for the ICP exam
API 572, 576, 577, 571, and ASME Section V
  • The learner is required to complete all the e-learning modules to self-study this content.
  • The live session will only cover a brief review of these exam documents to better prepare the learner for the ICP exam.

Who Should Attend

The e-learning course is designed for individuals that have applied or been accepted to write the API 510 ICP exam. However, many past customers have also taken this training program for general study to learn the 8 API and ASME codes and recommended practices that are included in the API 510 ICP.

The 2-day Classroom Session is suitable for those learners that require face-to-face interaction with an instructor. Learners that prefer a classroom environment to cover more complex subjects will find the 2-Day Classroom Session to be a beneficial supplement to the e-Learning course.

ASTM is recognized by the International Association of Continuing Education and Training (IACET) as an Authorized Provider of Continuing Education Units (CEUs), under the ANSI/IACET 1-2018 Standard, for good practices and quality continuing education and training programs.

Certificate & Credits

Upon completion of this e-Learning Course, a certification of completion will be issued with IACET continuing education units (CEUs). Completion of this e-learning course allow individuals to earn 8.0 CEUs equaling 80 professional development hours (PDHs).

Required Code Documents

Learners will need the API 510 ICP Exam documents to complete this e-learning course and study for the certification exam. It is important to study with the correct document editions which have had paragraphs irrelevant to the exam removed to maximize chances of passing the API 510 ICP Exam.
