New API 510 Effectivity Sheet and Body of Knowledge

API has released an updated Effectivity Sheet and an updated Body of Knowledge for the API 510 certification exam in September 2024.

What is the Effectivity Sheet?

The API Effectivity Sheet lists all of the effective editions of the documents required for the API certification exam. Each exam window will have a specific Effectivity Sheet describing the editions of the documents required.

What is the Body of Knowledge?

The API Body of Knowledge provides a list of the specific topics included in the API certification exam. Each exam window will have a specific Body of Knowledge describing the various exam subject areas, including information that exam candidates are expected to know. Exam questions may be taken from anywhere within each publication listed in the Body of Knowledge, unless specifically excluded. In the event that specific sections of an exam publication are excluded–all other sections within that document are included. In some cases specific paragraphs or sections are referenced in the Body of Knowledge as an aid to the exam candidate.

Why are they important?

Because exam documents change from edition to edition, it is very important that you prepare for your exam using the correct editions of the documents. This will ensure that you are familiar with the publication and able to find answers quickly during the exam. Some exams cover many documents, often spanning over 1000 total pages. Time is limited during the exam so you must be able to quickly locate answers to the exam questions.
