Who Should Attend

Inspectors, welders, welding supervisors, quality control personnel, technologists, and engineers involved with welding for new fabrication, repairs, maintenance, and inspection for pressure vessel or piping. This course is also designed to help prepare exam candidates for Alberta Welding Examiner (Papers 1 and 2) and CSA W47.1 Welding Engineer certifications. Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Hours

  • identify and describe weld test positions in accordance with ASME Section IX
  • identify and locate filler metal specifications and requirements from ASME Section II Part C (AWS specifications)
  • recall the safety hazards associated with welding and cutting processes (WHMIS, CSA, AWS, and others)
  • identify, evaluate, and learn mitigation techniques for common welding discontinuities using ASME B31.3 examples
  • know which NDE methods are commonly used for welds and how they are addressed in ASME Section V

Learning Assessment

Learning self-assessment is performed through discussions, problem solving exercises, and workshops.

About the Instructor

John E. Bringas, P.Eng. is the President and Founder of Codes and Standards Training Institute (CASTI) and CASTI Publishing Inc.
